A useful finding must be traceable to the records and open to validation.
PFD investigates whether recorded stock numbers are consistent with growth, feed, mortality and harvest records. It estimates plausible ranges where the available evidence supports them; it does not physically count fish.
How to assess a finding
Check the inputs. Review samples, feed records, mortality, transfers and harvest entries for gaps or recording errors.
Review the assumptions. Check that the growth and feed models are appropriate for the species, site and production conditions.
Compare the signals. Look for agreement across several indicators, and consider alternative explanations.
Validate on the farm. Use further sampling, record reconciliation and final harvest recovery where available.
Case studies and validated results
No independently validated case studies are presented on this page yet. Future examples will identify the production context, records analysed, assumptions, estimated range, validation method and remaining uncertainty. Farm information will be published only with permission.
